After receiving a warm greeting when you walk in our door, you’ll be introduced to some of our talented team. We’ll also show you around the office on a quick tour before reviewing your medical and dental history. We may then take photos and x-rays of your face and teeth before providing a complete oral exam by Dr. Buttram, which will determine if any treatment is necessary. If there are any oral issues present that orthodontics can correct, we’ll move on to creating a customized treatment plan for you.
We know that the unknown can be scary, and we’re committed to making sure you understand each step of the orthodontic process. It’s important to us that you never feel rushed or that your questions have gone unanswered. After your exam is complete, we’ll sit down with you and go over a variety of topics, including:
- any oral issues you’re experiencing that orthodontics can address
- if treatment is needed immediately or if it would be better to delay it
- what treatment options we have available to correct the problem
- if any permanent teeth will need to be removed first
- an estimate for how long we expect your treatment to take
- the total cost of treatment

What comes next
After your consultation, we’ll schedule an appointment for Dr. Buttram to place your new orthodontic appliance. This appointment generally takes about an hour, and our team will be available to make sure that you’re as comfortable as possible. If you are up to date with your dental cleanings and no dental work is needed, we can even place your braces on the same day!
Following your initial visits, you will be scheduled for follow-up appointments every eight to twelve weeks throughout the treatment process. Dr. Buttram will adjust your appliance if needed and check that your treatment is progressing according to plan. These visits are an essential part of your orthodontic treatment, so we will do our best to make sure they are scheduled for a day and time that’s convenient for you and your busy life! If for some reason you are running late or can’t make your appointment, we’ll do everything we can to accommodate you in rescheduling it, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible.
